Pagerwesi Day*

Quatro dias depois do Dia de Saraswati, o povo balinês reza para Sang Hyang Pramesti Guru.
É dia de levar oferendas até o templo que eles frequentam e até mesmo ao templo que eles possuem em casa chamado de Sanggah.
Este é o segundo maior feriado para os hinduistas e significa que eles precisam manter o conhecimento, a saúde, alimentação, vestuário e dinheiro como uma das prioridades para assim manter o universo em balanço.

Four days after Saraswati Day the balinese pray to Sang Hyang Pramesti Guru. 
All balinese have offerings to their Sanggah (temple in their house). 
This is the second biggest holiday for the balinese. The philosophy of this celebration is that they must keep knowledge, health, food, cloth and gold high in their lives to keep the universe in balance.

Happy Saraswati Day*

No último sábado foi o Dia de Saraswati. Dia de celebrar o conhecimento dado por Deus.

Saraswati é comemorado pelo povo balinês através de oferendas para seua livros sagrados e pergaminhos em suas casas. A filosofia do dia de Saraswati é que a coisa mais importante para a vida humana é o conhecimento.

O dia depois de Saraswati é o dia de Banyu Pinaruh. "Banyu" significa água e "Pinaruh" sabedoria.

On povo balinês normalmente toma um banho no mar ou lago ou rio e bebe uma mistura de ervas para melhorar a saúde.

A filosofia do dia de Banyu Pinaruh é que a segunda coisa mais importante para a vida é uma boa saúde.

Last Saturday was Saraswati Day. The day to celebrate the knowledge given by God.

Saraswati Day itself is celebrated by the balinese people bringing offerings to their holy books and scrolls in their houses. The philosophy of Saraswati day is that the most important thing for human life is knowledge.

The day after Saraswati is Banyu Pinaruh Day. "Banyu" means water and 'Pinaruh" means wisdom.

The balinese people usually takes a bath in the sea or a lake or river and drink traditional medicine which is made from various leaves to improve health.

The philosophy of Banyu Pinaruh day is that the second most important thing for human life is good health.

Monumento Bjara Sandhi

Eu estava dirigindo pela cidade de Denpasar ontem e 'dei de cara' com esse monumento lindo!!!!

Estacionei, desci do carro e fui ver mais de pertinho toda essa beleza e fotografar para vocês :)

Pesquisando na internet tomei conhecimento da história por trás desse belíssimo monumento e vim aqui contar.

Esse monumento também é chamado Tri Mandala por ser dividido em três areas:

Utama Mandala: é o prédio pricipal no meio

Madya Mandala: é o pátio ao redor Utama Mandala

Nista Mandala: é o pátio ao redor do Madya Mandala

O prédio principal (Utama Mandala) tem 3 andares:

Utamaning Utama Mandala: fica no terceiro andar é um lugar de tranquilidade e silêncio

Madyaning Utama Mandala: fica no segundo andar e representa as dificuldades do povo Balinês, começa pelo início do Reino Balinês, a chegada do Hinduismo, da colonização Holandesa, o sofrimento pela independência, até o presente momento.

Nistaning Utama Mandala: fica do térreo e contém uma sala para informações, uma biblioteca, sala para conferências e também um lago chamado Puser Tasik.

Bjara Sandhi Monument

Yesterday I was driving around Denpasar City and 'out of nowhere' i found this gorgeous monument.

Of course I parked the car and went to check this beauty out and take some pics to share with you guys :)

I was looking up the history behind this monument on the internet and that's what I found:

The building is a Tri Mandala, divided into 3 areas.

Utama Mandala: is a main building in the middle

Madya Mandala: is a courtyard that surrounds Utama Mandala

Nista Mandala: is the outer courtyard surrounding Madya Mandala.

Utama Mandala consist of 3 floors:

Utamaning Utama Mandala: is on the third floor as a place of tranquility and silenceMadyaning Utama Mandala: is on the second floor and shows the struggle of the Balinese people. It starts with the beginning of the Balinese Kingdom, the entrance of Hinduism, Netherlands colonialism, struggle of independence, until the present.  Nistaning Utama Mandala: is on the ground floor, containing a information room, library, conference room and also a lake named Puser Tasik.

Cuca Flavor Restaurant

Logo quando chegamos em Bali fomos jantar no Cuca Flavor.

E foi amor na primeira mordida....

Cuca é um restaurante super aconchegante, com uma comida estilo tapas deliciosa e colocada em porções para ser dividida. Na verdade eu gostei tanto, que poderia comer tudo sozinha :) :)

No website do restaurante eles dizem: "...os ingredientes mais incríveis cuidadosamente selecionados e provenientes exclusivamente da Indonésia para maximizar o frescor, apoiar os agricultores e produtores locais e mostrar a singularidade de deliciosos produtos locais." Com isso já deu pra entender que o lugar é especial né!?

Se você mora em Bali ou está aqui a passeio, Cuca fica no endereço: Jalan Yoga Perkanthi, Jimbaran. Com certeza Chef Kevin e toda sua equipe terá muito prazer em recebe-los. 

On the first week we arrived in Bali we went for dinner at Cuca Flavor.

And it was love at first bite .... :)

Cuca is a super cozy restaurant with a delicious tapas style food, placed in portions to be shared. In fact I liked it so much that could eat it all by myself :) :)

On the restaurant's website they say: "...the most amazing ingredients carefully selected and sourced exclusively from Indonesia to maximize freshness, support local farmers and growers and showcase the uniqueness of delicious local products." With this you get the idea of how special the place is, right !?

Jantar na praia - Beachfront dinner 

Na última semana de Julho tive o prazer de receber duas amigas de Shanghai aqui em Bali. E para começar bem as férias, decidimos fazer um programa muito turístico mesmo, fomos jantar no Lia Cafe.

Esse restaurante fica na areia da praia de Jimbaran e serve frutos do mar grelhados e também arroz, batata frita, vegetais variados e muito mais.

Você tem 4 opções: A, B, C e Lia's package. Como nós estavámos em um pequeno grupo e era uma data especial nós escolhemos a 'Lia's packge' que inclui (caso tenham curiosidade) 10 unidades de amêijoas grandes, 10 unidades de camarão, 1kg de peixe assado (nos escolhemos um bem típico daqui chamado Mahi Mahi), 1kg de lagosta, 2 cervejas grandes, 2 porções de batata frita, caldo de frango, salada, vegetal ao vapor, arroz e uma porção de melância para sobremesa. Tudo isso por 800,000 rupiah que seria em torno de R$180 - 200 reais. 

A comida estava uma delícia e foi servida após o pôr do sol. Super recomendo!

P.s: O Lia Cafe oferece translado gratuíto do hotel para o restaurante e restaurante para o hotel.

In the last week of July I had the pleasure of welcoming two beautiful friends from Shanghai here in Bali. And to start the holidays, we decided to do a very touristic thing and went for dinner at Lia Cafe.

The restaurant is right in the sand at Jimbaran beach and serves grilled seafood, rice, fries, assorted vegetables and more.

You can choose to eat by portions or choose one of the set menus.

You have four options: A, B, C and Lia's package. As we were in a small group and it was a special evening we chose the 'Lia's packge' including (in case you are curious) 10 units of large clams, 10 units of prawns, 1kg of grilled fish (we choose Mahi Mahi), 1kg of lobster, 2 large beers, 2 portions of fries, chicken broth, salad, steamed vegetables, rice and a serving of watermelon for dessert. All this for 800,000 rupiah which would be around $60.

The food was delicious and was served after sunset. Super recommend this place!

Ps: Lia Cafe offers free shuttle from the hotel to the restaurant and back.

Viagem de carro pela costa leste de Bali - Dia 3

Dia 3 começou cedo, Jemeluk Bay é uma parte famosa de Amed, é de lá que saem e chegam os barcos dos mergulhadores e também considerada uma das melhores partes de Bali para snorkeling.

Nós aproveitamos a manhã seguinte para ver os peixinhos, nadar e ficar de boa no sol.

Depois do almoço decidimos ir ao Lago Batur. Então de Amed continuamos subindo a costa.

Não havíamos programado essa parte da viagem, fomos na sorte mesmo :) Foi uma viagem bem cansativa pois para chegar ao lago é necessário subir uma montanha gigantesca e descer ela até chegar ao lago que fica aos pés do famoso vulcão Batur.

O vulcão Batur é ativo e é possível ver a fumaça saindo das pedras. Se você gosta de aventura pode aproveitar e contratar um guia e passar a madrugada fazendo trekking no Mt Batur para assistir o nascer do sol.

Bom, já passava das cinco da tarde quando saímos do Mt. Batur em direção a nossa casa em Uluwatu.

Como erramos um poquinho o caminho, percebemos que estávamos perto de Ubud e resolvemos parar para jantar, porque a fome era gigantesca.

Ubud na minha opinião tem os melhores restaurantes mas como este período do ano tem muito turista e fica um caos, decidimos não entrar no centro de Ubud e acabamos jantando em um resorte chamado Hanging Gardens Ubud.

Depois de uma boa refeição seguimos viagem para casa. 

Essa viagem foi uma experiência incrível que deixou saudades e eu recomendo muito. Bali é muito mais que Kuta e Seminyak, pode acreditar!! 

Road trip around the east coast of Bali - Day 3

Day 3 started early, Jemeluk Bay is a famous part of Amed, it's from there that the diving boats leave and arrive and it's also regarded as one of the best parts of Bali for snorkeling.

We took the next morning to do some snorkeling, swim and lay in the sun.

After lunch we decided to keep driving up the coast towards Lake Batur.

We had not planned this part of the trip, so we tried our luck :) it was a very tiring journey as to reach the lake you need to drive up a huge mountain and than down it until you reach the lake which is at the foot of the famous Batur volcano.

The Batur volcano is active and you can see the smoke coming out of the rocks. If you like adventure, you can  hire a guide and spend the night and early morning trekking on Mt Batur to watch the sunrise.

Well, it was after five o'clock when we left  Mt. Batur toward our home in Uluwatu.

On the way home, we took a different turn and ended up near Ubud, as we were very hungry we decided to stop for dinner.

Ubud in my opinion has the best restaurants but this time of year it's caotic  with all the turists so we decided not to enter the center of Ubud and ended up dining at a resort called Hanging Gardens Ubud.

After a good meal we drove home.

This trip was an amazing experience and I highly recommend it. Bali is much more than Kuta and Seminyak, believe me!!!

Viagem de carro pela costa leste de Bali - Dia 2

Na Segunda-feira acordamos cedo e enquanto nosso café da manhã estava sendo preparado, fomos andar pela praia.

A areia de Candidasa é muito macia e preta, devido estar muito perto de vários vulcanos.

Depois de estarmos alimentados seguimos nossa viagem em direção à Amed.

A primeira parada que fizemos foi na em uma pequena fábrica de chocolate chamada Uforia. Confesso que não foi muito fácil achar o lugar e se você estiver de férias em Bali talvez seja mais fácil comprar no Bali Buda.

Nossa segunda parada foi na praia de Jasri, onde ficam os famosos balanços que com certeza você já viu no Instagram da maioria dos turistas que vem para Bali :)

Da praia de Jasri seguimos para a White Sand beach que fica a nem 10 minutos dali.

A praia White Sand  também é um pouco difícil de achar mas com a ajuda do Google Maps fica tranquilo. Da rua principal é só entrar a direita antes do posto de gasolina e seguir a rua estreita até começar a ver as placas indicando o caminho.

A White Sand já é mais desenvolvida, mesmo não tendo lugar para passar a noite, a praia é cheia de restaurantes que possuem banheiro, ducha para banho e vestiário.

Essa foi a primeira praia em Bali que fomos até hoje que o fundo do mar é de areia, as outras tem pedras, corais ou algas marinhas, então aproveitamos muito, muito mesmo.

Também não fizemos reserva de quarto em Amed. Chegando lá começamos a procurar um lugar para passar a noite e confesso que não foi muito fácil, os hoteis, resortes e pousadas estavam lotados mas depois de 30 minutos conseguimos achar um lugar bem legal, em Jemeluk Bay.

Road trip around the east cost of Bali - Day 2

On Monday we woke up early and while our breakfast was being prepared, we decided to walk down the beach.

The sand in Candidasa is very soft and black, due to be very close to several vulcans.

After breakfast we continued our journey towards Amed.

The first stop we made was at in a small chocolate factory called Uforia. I confess it was not very easy to find the place and if you are on holiday in Bali may be easier to buy some bars in Bali Buddha.

Our second stop was at Jasri Beach, where the famous swings are, you surely have seen them on Instagram.

From Jasri Beach we headed to the White Sand beach which is a short 10 minutes drive.

The White Sand beach is also a bit hard to find, from the main street turn right before the gas station and follow the narrow street till you begin to see signs pointing the way the way to the beach. Google Maps was very useful :)

The White Sand is a lot more developed, although there's no place to spend the night, the beach is full of restaurants and they have bathroom, shower and changing room.

This was the first beach in Bali we were until today that the seabed is sandy, the others normally are made of rocks, corals or seaweed, so we took our time and enjoyed it for a while.

We didnt book a place in Amed neither so as soon as we got there we started looking for a place to spend the night and I confess it was not easy. All the hotels, resorts and guest houses were full but after a good 30 minutes we managed to find a cool place in Jemeluk Bay.

Viagem de carro pela costa leste de Bali - Dia 1

Decidimos fazer uma viagem de carro pela ilha, sem hotel reservado, sem paradas muito certas, sem destino marcado.

No Domingo de manhã saímos de casa, começando nossa viagem de Uluwatu. A nossa primeira parada foi na praia de Sanur.

Sanur é bonitinha, com alguns resortes na beira da praia, bastante restaurantes, sorveterias, lojinhas praianas. A praia é de areia e tem várias camas e guarda-sol para alugar para os turistas.

Nossa parada não foi muito longa, ficamos por lá um pouco mais de 1 hora. Tomamos sorvete na praia (pois a vida é curta, comece pela sobremesa :)) e depois almoçamos também à beira mar. Tão bom... :)

Sanur - Padangbai

Depois de dirigir 51km chegamos em Padangbai, famosa pelas suas escolas de mergulho e é de lá que sai o barco para as ilhas próximas à Bali. Mas não paramos, continuamos dirigindo até chegar na Bloo Lagoon, uma praia muito bonita, com areia macia e mar azul, palmeiras e coqueiros. Linda!

Bloo Lagoon, é uma praia meio difícil de encontrar, depois de subir e descer morros com o carro, paramos no estacionamento e de lá andamos um pouquinho até achar a escadaria que dá acesso para a praia. É muito legal, quando chegamos na metade, tivemos visão das palmeiras e do mar azul. Meu marido e eu paramos na mesma hora em 'choque' com a beleza hahaha.

Quando termina a escadaria, na esquerda você encontra dois restaurantes ai desce mais uns degraus e chega na areia.

De Bloo Lagoon seguimos para Candidasa (praia de areia preta) e como já passava das 18horas procuramos um lugar para ficar. Por sorte conseguimos o último bangalo no Relax Beach Resort, um lugar muito bonitinho, na beira do mar. Deixamos nossas coisas no quarto e fomos para praia tomar banho de mar e ver o pôr do sol.

Candidasa é muito bonita, super relax, tem uma rua principal onde você encontra lojas, restaurantes e bares. Saímos andando mesmo e avistamos um restaurante com um forno de pizza no jardim e paramos lá mesmo, jantamos e depois fomos tomar uma cerveja em um bar que ficava muito próximo e voltamos para o resorte descansar.

Observações:

Candidasa tem bastante caixa eletrônico, mas nem todos funcionam. A grande maioria dos lugares só aceita dinheiro.

Se você não reservar o hotel com antecedência, negocie o preço.

Eu realmente recomendo fazer o download do Google Maps no seu celular, mesmo não tendo a localização exata de alguns lugares, ele te leva para lugares muito próximos.

De Padangbai para Bloo Lagoon, dirija leste pela Jalan (rua) Silayukti, quando chegar no cruzamento dobre para a sua esquerda e já vai poder ver os sinais indicando o caminho pra Bloo Lagoon Resort, siga esses sinais mas ao invés de dobrar para a esquerda e entrar no resorte você deve seguir um pouco mais a frente e entrar em um estacionamento. Nesse estacionamento você encontra as escadarias para descer para a praia.

Road trip around the east coast of Bali - Day 1

We decided to do a road trip around the east coast of Bali. Something easy, without much planning. We didn't book accommodation, we didn't know where we would stop or where the final destination would be.

So on Sunday morning we left our villa, starting our trip from Uluwatu. Our first stop was at Sanur Beach.

Sanur is cute, with some resorts on the beach, small restaurants, ice cream parlors, little shops. The beach is sandy and has several beds and umbrellas for rent to tourists.

We didn't stop for too long,  a little over 1 hour. We had ice cream on the beach (life is short, start with dessert :)) and then we had lunch also by the beach.

After driving 51km we arrived in Padangbai, famous for its diving schools and that's where you can catch the ferry going to the islands near Bali. We kept driving until you reach the Bloo Lagoon (Blue Lagoon), a beautiful beach with soft sand and blue sea, palm and coconut trees. Stunning!

Bloo Lagoon is a secluded beach, for that reason kind of hard to find, after going up and down hills with the car, we stopped in the car park (15000 rupiah) and from there walked a bit until we found the stairs that give access to the beach. It was pretty cool when we got halfway down the stairs and caught sight of palm trees and blue sea, my husband and I stopped in 'shock' contemplating the beauty.

Well, after the stairs you will find two restaurants and a few more steps down it's the beach.

From Bloo Lagoon we headed to Candidasa (black sand beach) and as it was after 6pm we started looking for a place to stay for the night. Luckily we got the last bungalow at Relax Beach Resort, a very cute place by the beach. We left our things in the room and went to the beach for a swim and watch the sunset.

Candidasa is very beautiful, super relax, has a main street where you find shops, restaurants and bars. We went for a walk and stopped for a pizza and then went to have a beer in a bar which was very near and went back to the resort to rest.

FYI:

Candidasa has quite a few ATM, but not all work. The vast majority of places only accept cash.

If you do not book the hotel in advance, negotiate the price.

I really recommend you download Google Maps on your phone, while not having the exact location of places, it takes you to places nearby.

From Padangbai to Bloo Lagoon, head east along Jalan (street) Silayukti when you arrive at the intersection  takeyour left and you will see the signs indicating the way to Bloo Lagoon Resort, follow these signs but instead of taking left and enter the resort you must follow a bit more forward and get into a car park.  In this car park you will find the stairs to go down to the beach.
